Alex Bubin

Music first. Always. I was already mentally framing shots at every show I went to. A friend finally told me to buy a camera. That was 2024. Based in Oakland, California.

The punk, ska, and emo scene is where I landed: 924 Gilman, Bad Time Records bands, DIY shows where everyone's doing everything themselves. I didn't find this scene through photography. I was already there. The camera just gave me a reason to show up even earlier.

I give photos to bands for free because they need content and they're doing it all themselves. High-quality shots help them promote what they're building. That matters more to me than charging for it.

Shooting on a Sony a7 V. Biggest highlight so far: shooting Streetlight Manifesto (my favorite band) in 2025.

Why I Shoot

Most of these bands are DIY-ing everything: booking their own tours, running their own social pages, doing it all with no label and no budget. High quality photos matter for that. It helps them promote themselves, reach new people, look like the real band they are. Giving them the photos for free is just the right thing to do when you're part of the same community.

The photography is something I realized I was good at. The music is why I'm there. That order matters.
